Life's Little Moments

Saucy

There are few backyard birds with more attitude than our Blue Jays, which makes them hard to resist.  Today I put a bunch of peanuts in the shell on the patio and then huddled with my camera.  Within about a minute, there were 8 or 9 jays, a family group, grabbing peanuts.  Such fun to watch.  It is always interesting to me to observe their behavior within their groups as there are very clearly "alpha" birds.  And almost as much fun to watch is listening to the wide array of noises they make.  They are amazing mimics, and I've heard them doing everything from a creaky hinge to a red-shouldered hawk to a cat.  This one was just making a nondescript blue jay squawk, delivered with much attitude.

MIL is here for the afternoon and we have the fireplace blazing.  A very comfy afternoon.

Meanwhile, the pile of things to take to CR grows as the departure day draws nearer...

Thanks for dropping by.
