Poppies Galore

I was back visiting Lacock today - this time visiting a friend who is staying nearby. We drove the short distance to Lacock and enjoyed lunch in the Red Lion. It was a beautiful day so we walked along the river and past Lacock Abbey before entering the village again. The village was a lot less busy then when I was here a month ago and they were filming the Downton Abbey movie!

We went to take a look in the village church, St Cyriac’s (14th century), and saw this beautiful curtain of poppies on display, ahead of Remembrance Day next month. I’ve since learned that the purple poppies represent the many animals who also lost their lives in serving the armed forces in conflict. White poppies remember all those who died in world conflicts while reminding us to always strive for peace. For more information on the different meanings of the poppies see this BBC article.
