PhD submitted

It was a momentous day for my PhD student Frances: after many months of hard work she finally submitted her doctoral thesis. Here she is proudly holding the document next to the portable white board I used to help route her through her discussion chapter, and with the date and '100% completed' under name her on the whiteboard fixed to the wall.

It was also an important day for LyndseyJ because today we held her last supervision as a full-time student. This is because at the end of next month she starts her new job and will be writing up her doctoral studies part-time. Her supervision team gave her an annotated card to wish her the best of luck in the challenges ahead.

Meanwhile my second sister-in-law has decided to share her rowing times online. She is now officially the current top UK female over-50 rower in the Concept 2 rankings, and fifth best in the world!

This evening Mr hazelh and I celebrated Tony's birthday with him and Liz at Six by Nico. The food was delicious, but I found the service rather rapid and the restaurant far too noisy. I'll go back if they slow the pace and put down some carpets.

Exercise today: walking (17,887 steps).
