Gnome Home

Tons of rain in the night, grey and murky today. We managed a brisk walk around the circuit then did other stuff. The trip to New Zealand is also most sorted. So exciting and son#2 and his little family start their long journey home tomorrow for Christmas. They arrive on Tuesday, will have two weeks in Bristol then come on to us for two weeks. I can't wait, and little Esme is now smiling!

Oh and this gnome - recognise him Shaaamie?? Wearing his winter ivy and looking suitably silly. Did you know (thank you google) that gnomes  were once only found in the gardens of the rich? Or they may have their origins in Roman gardens where the well endowed Priapus was placed to ward off the evil eye. Garden gnomes seem to have originated in Switzerland and Germany and arrived in the UK around 1847. Having been very popular they are now regarded with suspicion and snobbery by some and were even banned from the Chelsea Flower Show in 2013!    Not to worry, there  25 million gnomes  frolicking in the gardens of Germany in 2008 (who counted?) When they first arrived in Ireland I don't know but I can't imagine the leprechauns were too thrilled. Thanks to Admirer for the Silly Saturday challenge.

We're off for an evening of short films, part of the Cork Indie Festival, and we might go mad and have a pizza afterwards. Catch up tomorrow.
