AFTERNOON TEA

I was so pleased to feel much better today, although still not 100% but good enough to go shopping because we had our granddaughter, Charlotte and her boyfriend, Jordan, coming for Afternoon Tea today.  This had been arranged for a couple of weeks and I didn’t really want to put it off, so we headed out to Waitrose this morning to buy the necessary cakes and fillings for the sandwiches.

I spent quite some time speaking to lady as we came out of the store, who was obviously feeling quite down - and believe I was meant to speak to her.  Amazing how God puts us in the right place at the right time!

Not having been in touch with Charlotte and Jordan for a week, and expecting them at 3 p.m. at 3.20 both Mr. HCB and I looked at one another and asked a couple of questions, such as “Have we got the right day?”  “What about the time?”  Then, “Perhaps I should have text to remind them!” but a few minutes later there was a ring at the bell and there they were!  They had got caught up in traffic which was why they were late.

We had a great time with them, the conversation flowed, the sandwiches went down well - I had asked what they liked because they are vegetarians - and the cakes were much appreciated.  Copious cups of tea were drunk and the teapot refreshed several times and before we knew it, the time had whizzed by and it was 6.45 p.m.  My photograph shows Jordan staking his claim to the chocolate brownies piled up to look like a Jenga game and Charlotte demonstrating her prowess with one of Grandma’s best teacups and saucer.

We were amazed and delighted at how well informed both Charlotte and Jordan were about Brexit and other political matters so the conversation never flagged and it was good to hear the views of young people who are obviously concerned about the country and how things will pan out in the future.  Charlotte said that she had always been interested in politics and believed that if you were old enough to vote, then you should at least be well-informed and know what you were voting for!

We took our leave of one another, sending them off with an Advent Calendar, two chocolate éclairs, a tub of chocolate brownies and a jar of my chutney - saying that we hoped we would see them again very soon - but it probably won’t be until Christmas now, because we all have busy lives.  Thank you for coming, Charlotte and Jordan - we enjoyed our afternoon with you!

In the post today, I received a lovely card from a fellow Blipper with a reminder that I must “press on and have hope, because God is faithful” - thank you so much - you know who you are!

Today I am grateful for:

1.  Feeling well enough to go out to do shopping today
2.  Afternoon Tea with good food and company
3.  A card and encouragement from a fellow Blipper

P.S.  Thank you for all your lovely comments, stars and hearts over the last couple of days when I have been feeling under the weather - they have encouraged me no end and I am really grateful to you all.
