The Hungarian Guard

The Hungarian Christmas guard have come out from their barracks to parade beside the Christmas tree.
I thought long and hard about putting up the Christmas tree this year, but I know His Lordship would have wanted me to celebrate Christmas as usual and not wallow in misery.

With a very odd premonition last year of life changing circumstances, he seemed to savour the 2017 Christmas period more than usual; the Christmas tree looked more beautiful to him than ever before and he wrote letters to accompany the cards he sent to his own friends, a thing that he didn’t usually do.

He did love Christmas and everything had to be just so. His presents were immaculately wrapped, with the sellotape closures ensuring that it took many minutes to get into the parcel.

The tree itself was the one we bought when we moved into the Dower House, so it is 9 years old now, totally artificial but with led lights which never seem to fail (famous last words). HL always put it’s 3 sections together and connected it to the power supply while I decorated it with all the decorations we had amassed from visits to Hungary and beyond.
I was intending to get David to help me, but decided that was a bit wimpish so had it standing resplendent and twinkling when he came with Luca for a bowl of soup at lunch time.
