Draggin' the Door Knocker

Couldn't resist blipping this door knocker, which I noticed for the first time on one of our regular walking routes, so perhaps it's new. 

Or perhaps there's a special dragon magic that normally conceals it from the unwary, but today my own magic was too strong... was tempted to knock, but panicked a bit at the thought of the dragon answering.

This evening we've been to a very interesting panel discussion in Stroud, on populist politics and fascism, and the new-speak of "alternate facts". It is an oddity that we seek to protect community by establishing who is and who is not a part of it. 

"Beyond the pale" comes from the old English village encircled by a paling fence, where exiles were sent beyond it. But exclusion and the "them and us" attitude leads to division and polarisation and fascism.

Thank the gods we don't have any of that in here.
