Snow Clearing by Machine

First there is a low rumbling noise, more felt than heard. Then the noise grows louder and you realise it is coming closer. Finally, our neighbour and his digger rumble past the house, pushing a large pile of snow in front. Sometimes the snow pile becomes too heavy, or too large and he has to pick up a shovel full and drop it off the side of the driveway (see extra). This clears the way for a second run, and he backs up, revs the motor, and charges forward once more.
Whenever I step outside and chat to him he moans about the snow but I think he secretly loves it, especially since he retired 3 or 4 years ago (then aged 71), and now complains of having nothing to do.
Once the machine had done its bit I was out there with a shovel and broom, clearing all those other bits around the houses, cars, kayak tent, and rubbish bins.
Other news from the day is that we can have a wood-burning stove in our house, and as part of planning for that we moved our harmonium, pump organ, down into the Red House. Jan has written about that in her blip.
Now I’m off to do my second lot of yoga today - nearly caught up with the daily program!
