The view from the Puente Nazari

The geography and geology of the Alpujarras are challenging for getting around ... there's a lot more gorge below the bottom of this photo. This is a relatively recent bridge (19th century) -- we parked nearby on our way back from Lanjarón to find the 15th-century Puente Nazari (see extra -- the dot in the middle is S leaning on the parapet). Neither of these bridges is in frequent use now: the shadow in the extra is the modern road bridge that soars over the top of both, making them redundant.

Apparently there is an abandoned village (Tablate) nearby -- we didn't discover this, but you can read about it, plus a bit more history,  here.
