A Tight Squeeze

The road through the town centre has been closed this week as it is being resurfaced. This has been a bit of a nightmare for traders as there are two car parks which are accessed from the main road and the detour signs seemed to point in all directions, so the town has been very quiet as have the shops.

G told me about the fascinating machines being used and how mesmerising it was, and I witnessed it for myself this morning. The large machine in the bigger photo rips up the old road surface and throws the debris into the back of the large flatbed lorry as shown in the bottom two photos. This requires excellent co-ordination between the two and brilliant driving as there's some sharp and narrow turns involved. There were lots of other workmen around using many different machines for laying the new road surface. According to G, someone in one of the shops said it's 30 years since it's been done. It looks like they're on track to finish tomorrow. Well done those workmen!

P.S. John you might recognise that this is the end of Peacock Lane.
