A day of two halves

The first half of the day was pretty hectic. Even before we set off for Glasgow to collect Mr A's passport, I'd done the ironing, and sorted out all of the clothes that have been hanging around waiting to be put away since we came back from Finland. Unfortunately, when I was getting dressed I jarred my dodgy foot and it's been bothering most of the rest of the day as a result. The trip to Glasgow was easy - one of those cases where driving was more convenient than taking the train. The passport office was easy to find, and as soon as we went in, Mr A was called forward to sign for his new passport and get corner cut off his old one. What a faff we had to do it this way, but there was a fear that if there is a no deal Brexit at the end of this month then he wouldn't be able to travel on his old passport as its expiry date was too close. This way he gets another purple passport to last him 10 years after the proposed Brexit day. Lucky him. In the end, it just made sense to use the premium in person service, and it all went smoothly.

The traffic getting back into Edinburgh was, however, anything but smooth. It was horrendous. We dropped into the supermarket on the way back here, and whilst Mr A was picking up some messages, I phoned the Ship on the Shore to reserve a table for later.

That was the second half of the day. A wander down the Water of Leith in grey spitting weather, and then - just as we finished our lunch - some brilliant sunshine which gave me my blip. For most of the time that we were in the restaurant, this booth - which is where we sat when we had lunch with Meles and DaveH in July - was occupied by two couples, the male halves of which were a bit too loud for my liking. A certain amount of falling down water had obviously been consumed, and it would seem that the male of the species just had to perform in order to try and impress the females....

The sun and the wind were in our face as we made our way home. I'm afraid that the second half of the second half has been pretty lazy. I had a nap when we got back, and then I've just been fiddling around with various things in a slightly unconstructive way since waking up. The wind was howling around the flat earlier on, but it seems to have dropped again. However, the forecast indicates it will get up again during the night.
