Static

Another experiment from the '50 Science Things To Make And Do' book demonstrates static electricity. We hoped the Flumlet would be spellbound.
A circle of tissue paper is cut in a spiral to represent a snake,  a plastic ruler rubbed against a woollen cloth old cardigan is held over the 'head' of the snake and the snake will appear to waken. 
We did not bother with the snake-charmer's basket. When performed with sufficient vigour the snake can not only raise its head but be lifted clear of the table!
