Through The Triangular Window

On our walk west from Yellowcraigs we came across an unusual cairn, which we think so new that there is no information to hand.

It contains a spyhole, round at the landward end and triangular at the seaward end, through which is a view of the lighthouse on Fidra. On one edge of the cairn is mounted an aeroplane propeller. There is no plaque but may have some connection with wartime aircraft target practice as the wreck of HMS Ludlow lies within sight. Extra 1 shows the cairn with the spyhole and the propeller on the side.

We then investigated the Fortress of Solitude, a cave partway up the cliff, (apparently related to the Superman comic books) only to find that there is another cave close by, extra 2 shows the larger, which is high enough to stand and has a wall built at the entrance; Mr Flum is crouching at the entrance.  Neither is decorated in any way, as the news reported, nor easily accessed.

We pottered back, noting the new, very large, houses on the Archerfield estate, behind their chainlink fencing and imagined living in such luxury within sight of the sea but having no direct access.
