Her younger sister was in a nearby patch of woodland playing laser tag with classmates at a birthday party (no-one goes dressed up to parties any more, Grandma) among hides of plastic sheeting and ramparts of wooden pallets. Meanwhile Catriona was keeping us well entertained in Dobbies Garden Centre by showing us various glasshouses and sheds she felt might enhance our lives; I recorded a kind of Joanna Lumley interview in this one, which cost the same as we paid for our house in 1975.

Before that I was delighted to meet quite by chance fellow-blipper Elspeth who waved madly as I was searching for a vacant table in the cafe. Recognition of one another’s subject matter followed as introductions were made ...
