MOBY DICK

Askham Hall Revisited  A lovely day out with Hubby today but we only visited the cafe this time not the gardens.

The cafe was extremely quiet when we arrived for coffee, hubby had cake (in fact we were the only ones in the cafe), which was a surprise as the lower car park was full!!!

Anyway I was chatting to the chef who was very pleasant and said he was setting up for a party of 26 for coffee and buns.

We then went on a nice gentle walk from the bottom of the village of Askham, over the bridge and into the woods.  We followed the tracks through the woods, over fields and the River Lowther to the foot of the hamlet of Whale (hence the title) and then back back to Askham again arriving at the top end of the village this time.  En route we saw a pair of pheasants having a fight a large flock of geese in a field and a herd of very hairy cattle (not highland) as well as hear various birds.  It was so peaceful.  The only people we saw on our route was two ladies and a motorcyclist whilst walking on the road back from the foot of Whale.

Had to do a gentle walk as Hubby's bursitis has cleared up, but his leg still gets quite sore if the does too much on the allotment or walks too far.

We arrive back in time for lunch and returned to the cafe for lunch.  I had a pizza (which is extremely rare for me as I usually avoid pizza due to the calories, but this was straight out of the wood-fired oven, very thin and light), Hubby had the goats cheese and wild garlic quiche with the salads.  There was also their homemade sausage roll with salads or a homemade chicken casserole today.  Then menu is very limited but all totally delicious.

It was such a bright morning and quite cold, especially in the shade, but very bright.  Not all the pictures have turned out too well but some were OK and this one isn't too bad and shows the hamlet of Whale across the River Lowther.

I've also included an extra of a brilliant sunburst that I managed to capture.  The photo itself isn't brilliant but I'm very pleased with the sunburst - this is thanks to a tip some weeks ago by Gladders.

A really nice day out.
