Catching a crab

Went down to Southend of Snells Beach with the long lens on my Pentax, and was greeted by more than a score of Matuku moana (white faced herons). No surprise, therefore, that the wee lane along the very end of the beach front is called Heron Lane. One of them can be seen as an extra for today, rather ruffled by wind.

The poaka (Pied stilts) were also there, feeding alongside the matuku, when they weren't making alarm calls. As I kept my distance, mostly, I was able to get close enough to luck upon this successful grab for a crab. After swallowing the crab, the poaka kept on searching the shallow water as the tide ebbed further.
