Stuff and Nonsense

Common Sandpiper #51

With the promise of a cool but dry day, we decided to walk around Buttermere. First we were confronted with part of the lakeshore being cut off due to nesting sandpipers, but we didn't mind at all. We could see them from the gate and took a few shots before moving on. Then the bridge from the lakeshore was missing and needed repair so we had to backtrack a bit before even starting our leisurely walk. We kept stopping every time we saw/heard anything so it took us ages, but we did hear our first cuckoo of the season.
It was actually too hot for coats, but half way round there has been conveniently situated, a snack and ice cream stand which was doing good trade. Of course it would have been rude not to try one!
We also saw a pair of red breasted mergansers looking mighty fine in the sunshine (the male is in extras).
Another lovely day and no sign of Storm Hannah, thank goodness.
