Aquamarine/Nanna K's Day

By NannaK

The Olympics, up close.

Yesterday it was the ocean, today the mountains, all part of the Olympic Penisula, much of which is included in Olympic National Park.  We haven’t been to these spots in years ..lovely to be there on such a gorgeous day—with snow remnants at the visitor center on Hurricane Ridge.(5242 ft, named for its intense weather but not today!r)   I think the highest mountain is Mt. Olympus at 7980 ft.  Fond memories of past hikes from here.
Extra: Then we also wanted to visit Dungeness Spit and the wildlife refuge..( yes it was named by George vancouver in 1792 after the headlands in England). so more ocean..and a gorgeous beach..you can walk 5+ miles out to the tip to the lighthouse(where you can stay for a week now..there’s a 2 year wait.…just out of view at the end)  We just went a little way on this fabulous beach and sat on a log…you can only walk on the ocean side (Striats of Juan de Fuca) as the harbor side is full of nesting birds.  Too many views for here so tomorrow I’ll gather a flickr set.    A lovely getaway not that far away from Seattle, we can see those mountains from where we live.  We seem to just go back and forth to the Gulf Islands so this was a treat for all our senses!
