Cultural Assimilation
So I've been learning this here German language for nearly 8 and a half years and I notice more and more the creeping of English into everything. It wasn't just this digital advertising board that brought it to mind, I was reading a document at work all about something not at all thrilling when I read the sentence "Wir haben festgestellt, dass das was only to confuse the Russians."
That means "We have established that this was only to confuse the Russians." Although the grammar is a bit ropey.
So much of my daily routine is made up of trying to understand those things whose primary purpose was constructed in a way to confuse the Russians (a nation of millions) and therefore provide me (a micronation of 1) with no clues about what something does or why. And when I solve these problems, I give people the answers in German.
It is sometimes quite tiring.
