The Sedentary Life

Tiger Balm and ice packs were deployed today in an effort to walk normally with hobbling along like an old lady. Strangely, cycling does not affect the muscle in question so I did have a short cycle ride round the southerly environs early before the build up of traffic. Otherwise it was a very sedentary day with much café chat with Marchmont, fresh from her extended holiday in Malaysia and Vietnam.

Tonight I have my book group meeting to which I will have to test out the efficacy of the Tiger Balm. I bought the white variety rather than the red and wonder if there is any difference in healing powers between the two.

Our book for tonight is The Cut Out Girl by Bart Van Es and is a factual description of the life of a Jewish girl in the Netherlands during WWII, who was taken in to live with the grandparents of the author to avoid being sent to the gas chambers when her country was occupied by the Germans.

Although rather like Anne Frank, she was hidden away for some time but the ending is happier as she is still alive and living in the Netherlands while practically all of her family and extended family perished at the hands of the Nazis. It will make for a sombre discussion
