Snaizeholm Red Squirrels

Another dry day - hurrah!
This morning we headed over to Foxglove Covert LNR which is situated in Catterick Garrison. You have to get past the guy with the gun, report to the Guard Hut and leave some ID, before you get escorted into the reserve itself.
Actually it was a bit of a disappointment to be honest, even if it is a lovely little reserve. I guess it must be busier birdwise at other times of the year as we only saw about 15 birds in total (9 species)in a couple of hours. We left around midday and went back to Hawes for a quick snack.
Then we arranged to do the red squirrel trail near Snaizeholme. A nice little walk, no more than a couple of miles, but it was through a forest where there is a good population of red squirrels. There is a feeder that is kept topped up by the owners of Mirk Pot Farm and we saw quite a few squirrels in the hour that we sat there. They are not really tame but do come reasonably close . As usual with forests though, the light was not the best I'm afraid.
