Students at work

A successful final lecture was followed by a trip out to Holmfirth Moor to record some quadrats on moorland. This group has been a pleasure to teach - all of them very involved in their work and keen to learn. Here they are - hard at it!

After the day was over I went out for a Thai meal with Steve (the course co-ordinator) and two old friends, Roger and Rosy. Roger worked with Pete on the ISR in 1985, and we've known them since 1985, though since they moved to Yorkshire some years ago, we've not seen them. It was good to catch up after such a long time - I don't think any of us have changed very much - perhaps we're a bit more cynical now, and with a few more aches and pains!

PS No photo for yesterday. The day was just too busy, and the train back to Petterborough lost power between Newark and Retford, causing a three hour delay. The atmosphere on the train was surprisingly good-humoured, with lots of chat in my particular area. The lack of air conditioning made it very hot, but at least we were given free bottles of water!
