The Farne Islands

I have always wanted to visit the Farne Islands.

They are a very special place.

The weather was kind today. it was a 7 hour trip from Seahouses, which allowed for plenty of time on Staple Island and Inner Farne.

Lots to see, and lots to photograph. It is going to take me some time to sort all the images out, but this is an obvious one (and the extra, where the Arctic Tern is showing J who is boss).

Arctic Terns are feisty birds. They have the longest migration of any bird (between 25 - 35,000 miles a year). And they nest right beside the boardwalks where visitors walk, regarding each minor intrusion as a threat to be countered by direct physical action. It is not wise to not wear a hat, as I noticed one or two people were finding. Blood is drawn.
