Poppies

I felt much better today after a good night's sleep last night. I have not found any poppy fields but I often see poppies growing on the side of the road, so on my way back from getting groceries this morning I stopped to take photos.

The name Poppy has been on my brain as one of the suggestions for our new puppy is Poppy, because she was born on the day 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings. I am also reading a very enjoyable book, one recommended by Reese Witherspoon for her book club, it is called This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel - a thought provoking story beautifully told about a little boy who at the age of 5 decides he wants to be a girl, and so he becomes Poppy.

Tonight is the annual dinner for the committee members of the parent's arts society from the boys' school, and each year at the dinner we say goodbye to the committee members  who are leaving and welcome the new members. Tonight I am one of those committee members who are leaving at the end of the school year, it has been four wonderful years on the committee and although at times it is a lot of work I will miss it.

Tomorrow Luke and Adam come home from university,  Luke is back for good except when we go back to Durham for his graduation early next month. Adam is going back after the weekend as he has May Week to attend (yes it is June but that is what they call the week at the end of the academic year when they have all the summer balls and parties). Thomas will be studying, most of his friends are already finished their exams but he only finishes on the 24th - it is only a handful of pupils who do those extra modules of Further Maths that finish that late. He had a horrible Further Maths exam yesterday, it was a bit of a shocker and there are even reports of some girls at another school crying through the exam as it was nothing like the sample exam that the exam board had published. This is only the second year of the new format A level exams, and there are hardly any past papers to refer to.
