Ugly duckling

The cygnets really have taken on the ‘ugly duckling’ look. This one is even carrying some of it’s own pond weed. Thankfully they are all (5) still present, but we had some sad news on this mornings walk. One of last year’s brood of 8, a juvenile, had been savaged to death, probably last night as the body was still there. The two juveniles left were in their usual place at the top of the pond on Sunday when I visited with Eda. I think it was probably a dog as some ducks had been killed in the past by dogs but I don’t suppose we will ever know. When you see them survive through a whole year as youngsters it seems a very sad end.

On a brighter note I went with a friend to see ‘Rocketman’ at a Silver screening at Ilkley cinema later.
Free coffee and cake preceded a very good film. In the style of Bohemian Rhapsody but maybe not quite as good. We both thoroughly enjoyed it though and then went into Ilkley for lunch.
