Cheese....!

Really hard to choose a photo for today as we’ve done, seen and learnt so much. So this was the first picture I took at a cheese-making factory in Volendam. The lady who talked us through the process was brilliant.. a great sense of humour!

Then onto a clog making demonstration, now sadly fully mechanised but clever all the same. Farmers’ clogs were wide to prevent sinking into the soil. Fishermen’s clogs have pointed toes to pick nets up without bending down...clever!

Volendam itself is a fishing village so lots of seafood stalls, and fishing boats bobbing on the North Sea. Plenty of other souvenirs too....

Finally a visit to Zaanse Schaans and a collection of windmills, barns and historic houses brought from different parts of the country and reconstructed as an 18th century Dutch village.

Far too brief detail, but the day recorded.
