Water

I stuck with Plan A today, with a couple of modifications as a result of rain in the late afternoon. Oh, and one place I intended to visit turned out to be on a gravel road and I wasn’t convinced the car is insured for that.

One of the main things was getting to Geysir to see the “original” geyser - and the other hot springs and geysers in the Haukadalur Valley. Geysir itself is rarely active these days, but the powerful Strokkur nearby erupts every 5-10 minutes.

The water bubbling up in that area is 80-100⁰c. It is remarkable. So is the smell.

The other was the waterfall at Gullfoss. It has a drop of 32m (105 ft), in two stages. The noise is amazing.

It has made for some tricky decisions about what to Blip. I’ve gone for Gullfoss - the second drop.

In the Extras I’ve put three of Stokkur - the crowds waiting for an eruption, the crater (or whatever it’s called) bubbling away between eruptions, and an eruption.

Now it is that airport hotel, end of holiday feeling.
