Bridgewater Arms

As usual on a Wednesday I took Finlay out early and then we went off to Darlington to check in on Mrs madwill’s mother.

More house clearance ahead of her pending move and someone came to collect some furniture that he had arranged to buy off her.

We went out for lunch to the Bridgewater Arms at Winston. It is many years since we went there and it appears to have changed hands and gone upmarket - it is now a ‘seafood’ restaurant (miles from the sea I hasten to add). We had fish and chips - very nice but very expensive! Probably the cheapest thing on the menu anyway.

The building itself was originally built as Winston CE Primary School in 1851 - the bell is still in place over the front door. The school closed in 1959.

Loaded up the car with more rubbish / charity shop donations (two separate piles, I should say) - there is not much left to sort now. Home mid afternoon - Mrs madwill off out give a talk to the WI in Boston Spa this evening. If it cools down a bit I may take Finlay out again!
