Sunset on a sad day

Yesterday afternoon S' mother was persuaded that she was too ill to safely travel back to her home, and be there on her own. In the early hours of this morning she became acutely breathless and weak, and we went in to be with her. This time there was no marvellous recovery, and she was made comfortable until she died peacefully.

She would have loved to see this beautiful sunset and I will think of her when such sunsets recur. I have put a photo of a feral pigeon up as an extra for today. She always enjoyed seeing my bird photos. In recent months she has been welcoming the many tui who visit and often called to them. She believed that they answered. This feral pigeon came in through the open window of the room she was in as we sat with her after her death. She would have really enjoyed this visitor.
