After the Thunderstorm!

We have walked our socks off again today and are just having a relaxing couple of hours at the hotel before venturing out again for dinner.

We took our time over breakfast and then chose a route via Wenceslas Square to Staré Mesto (old town) to wander the streets a bit, watch the other tourists and hang about with the throng for the chiming of the Astronomical Clock. We had planned to then look at the Jewish Cemetery but it was heaving when we arrived there and so we sat by the river awhile to come up with Plan B.

Plan B was to find the route up to the Castle via the vineyards which I had taken on my previous visit. We actually took a parallel route to the top of the hill and then wandered through the Castle complex and stocked up with fridge magnets.

We were ready for a sit down and a cuppa and, descending through the pretty Lesser Town, there are lots of small courtyards which house cafes. The first one we liked the look of was closed so we tried a second, Restaurant U Laury and had just ordered cuppas when there was a huge thundercrack overhead and it started to pour. The waiters rushed out and put up huge umbrellas and everyone pulled in their chairs, but the heavy rain was finding its way through the gaps and bouncing back off the paving stones! We beat a hasty retreat to a table in the corridor to the courtyard and enjoyed our apple strudel watching the downpour from the dry!

The sun emerged some twenty minutes later and we continued our way back to the hotel, pausing at the lovely wooden shop Amadea to treat ourselves to a Christmas decoration (yes I know!!)

My blip was taken in Malostranské Namesti as the storm clouds rolled away.
