Lisianthus, the prairie gentian

I learn a lot from Blipfoto, mainly from other people. Today, I did some research on the lisianthus in this vase and discovered it is also called the prairie gentian or eustoma. It is native to the warm parts of the Americas.

Perhaps that is why it is so at home here at the moment. We have struggled again with the heat and are looking forward to cooler temperatures tomorrow.

Margret (next door) and Fleur (her sister-in-law), had the right idea and went to the coast and on a boat to the Farnes. They had to put on their fleeces!! The coolest I could make the coolest room in the house was 25 degrees today.

I went to Aldi for a food shop and enjoyed lingering amongst the chiller cabinets. Ah, simple pleasures.

I bought these flowers last week and was fretting that they would not open but keel over. They have rewarded us with a beautiful show.

Definitely better on black so please click to enlarge.
