Flooded fields

It finally stopped raining by the time this morning that Mr hazelh and I left our weekend retreat on our bikes to catch the train back from Carstairs to Edinburgh. Along the way we witnessed a lot of flood damage. Near Carstairs many cattle were attempting to graze flooded fields (as blipped). We also saw by the side of the river the body of a poor cow that must have drowned overnight.

At Carstairs station we met another cyclist. She is due to set off from London tomorrow for a cycling holiday along the River Elbe. Initially she planned to spend the whole weekend prior to this trip abroad in London. However, she discovered on Sunday in London that she had left her passport at home in Scotland! This necessitated a very stressful and expensive overnight return trip to Scotland. By my calculations she should be back on London by now. Here's hoping that's the one and only disaster of her holiday.

This afternoon we have been catching up on the usual domestic tasks associated with a return from a weekend away. We are still without a washing machine, so have been obliged to take yet another service wash to the launderette. (John Lewis has agreed to cover the launderette expenses as 'compensation' for the delay to the delivery of our new washing machine.)

I'm looking forward to a quiet evening à deux in front of the television this evening.

Exercise today: 8 miles of cycling; some walking (6267 steps).
