Gently down the stream

The dole

In a way this is part two of yesterday's adventure though it was, of course, taken today.

'The Hospital of St Cross and Almshouses of Noble Poverty', as the place is rather gloriously named, has a very old tradition of providing for weary travellers.  Originally 'The Dole' was a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine - for free.  It still gives out a free Dole, only this has now shrunk to a small cup of beer and a really tiny square of bread.  Not having claimed the dole before (I don't like beer, for a start), I decided to yesterday - and also bought one of the pottery dole cups, thinking great still life for a rainy Friday.  Even if it did mean forcing down the beer!

So here is the still life.  I'm afraid the beer has been substituted for ginger ale, but the bread is the piece I was given yesterday, now nice and crispy ;))

Very many thanks for the love your gave the swallow fledgies.  And like you I wish them all luck on their journey to Africa.

Have a good Friday evening and a great weekend  xx
