If you can't beat them...

Edinburgh fringe 1.5°C ACT NOW

Katkatkat had a busy day so Clickychick and I headed off to the Botanical Gardens.   We had listed our visit as a potential blip meet in the blip forum.  As it turned out only Kaybee could make it.  We had a great morning/afternoon.  The highlight being the exhibition of photographs by Levon Biss.  These were absolutely mind blowing.  Insects of 10 mm printed on sheets of metal at least 2 m x 3 m.  Not only that but they were made up of around 8000 shots.  The insects had been taken in around 30 bands for their length and then the focus moved forward my 10 micron before another series of shots.  Definitely worth a visit if you get the chance.

After the Botanics we headed back into town meeting KKK outside St Giles Cathedral.  From there we headed to Zizzi's through an almost solid wall of people, well the festival is on.  Surprisingly once we turned down the close towards Zizzi it was quiet and calm.  Thank goodness I am really not keen on cities particularly when heaving with people.

KKK had been helping friends who were running a fringe show.   This was the reading over 5 days of the full IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C.  Readers included politicians, activists, climate scientists, the CEO of the Adelaide Fringe, and even comedians.  We went with Kat to the very last session, this was the reading of the salient points from the report extremely condensed.  As it was the last session the tablet with the script was passed round all of us with each person reading one of the points.

Kat's friends had taken time off work for the event, the whole event was staged on borrowed, and already owned items and was staged if a loaned shipping container.  All very environmental.  For the final session there were far too many to fit in the container so we stood and sat outside in the evening light.

The main thrust of the report was that for decades we have been told of the devastation the the population of the world would suffer if the climate warmed by 2°C.  Over the last 10 years the island states such as the Maldives have been pointing to research which shows we really needed to limit climate change to 1.5°C.  The blip shows some of us hanging around at the end of the reading.  The poster behind people is the bibliography of the reports printed at normal report sized font.  You may notice that in red parts of the text say 1.5°C

Clickychick has blipped one of Levon Biss's Insect Photos.
