The Middle Arch

.... of Blackfriars Bridge.

My favourite bridge over the Irwell. The higher Manchester bank on the left, the lower Salford bank on the right.

Bridges connect, join, bring things together. They make things work.

The history says that this bridge was built in 1820. It replaced a bridge built to replace a wooden bridge built in 1761 by ( and this is serious stuff) a company of Salford comedians. It’s purpose, to enable Manchester punters to get easily to the playhouse.
