Hilton Lodge, Guisachan Estate

This is Hilton Lodge, the summer retreat of the hazelh family in the early 1980s. We drove up here from our accommodation in Cannich this morning. It was quite a rocky ride over the potholed surface of the main track to the house, but I was a new driver on these roads back in 1981 so I could easily cope today.

After checking the exterior of the house we continued up the track to the spectacular Plodda Falls. I have to say that I was impressed to recall that we used to swim in the second plunge pool below the 151 foot waterfall.

Our next port of call was the village tea room in Tomich. There we asked after a family that used to visit us when we were in residence at Hilton. We learnt that the 'young' Miss L still lives in the village, so we decided to call in on her. Quelle surprise - she is no longer young! She kindly welcomed us, but informed us straightaway that she has dementia and had no idea of our identity. We spoke fondly of her father and that seemed enough to convince her and her husband that we weren't random crazy people calling in on strangers in their highland homes.

We spent this afternoon at the Glenurquhart Highland Games. Mr hazelh almost entered a couple of races - and he would have done well had he done so - but instead settled for a game of shinty strength whacking a ball against a Loch Ness monster target. By the time we left the showground he was placed third in the challenge. I have included an extra of the tug of war at the Games. We all found this very exciting.

In the last Scrabble game of the holiday before dinner this evening, and a stonking start of three Scrabbles in a row (two of them mine), Mr hazelh was the winner. He also wins the series 5:2, having beaten me in another game earlier in the day.

Exercise today: walking (10,152 steps).
