I need more carrots!

Backblip - Sunday

We spent most of today in the Galloway Forest Park, on just one small section of it - The Queen’s Way from New Galloway to Newton Stewart. Stopping first at Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre, which was surprisingly closed, we took a short walk along Clatteringshaws Loch to Bruce’s Stone where Robert the Bruce rested after routing the English!
Continuing on the drive we came to the Red Deer Range, recently visited by my neighbour, and as she said the deer were just there! Helped by the family who were feeding them carrots no doubt. Great to see them up close.
Moving on we pulled in at the Wild Goat Park. Nothing in sight by a little further on the road we saw two lots. They amused us by standing stock still in our presence so we left them to it.
At the end of the drive we came to Kirroughtree Visitor centre which was open and very busy with Mountain bikers. The centre is known as the gateway to the park and there is certainly much more to see. It is also the UK’s first Dark Sky Park. Enjoyed our taste of it all and would happily return to enjoy some of the walks.

Took the coastal route to our hotel north of Dumfries on the R Nith, stopping briefly in Gatehouse of Fleet which we thought was a most attractive little town. We took a walk along the Nith before dinner seeing a Kingfisher skimming the water in both directions. So fast but it’s iridescent blue flash was unmistakable.

A very peaceful place and we had a lovely dinner but what we didn’t get was WiFi. It appeared that we were connected but I couldn’t even open blip so for the first time in many years you get a back blip today. Other than that we had a lovely day, bright and breezy again.
