My Latest Travel.....

The hurricane has begun to move off of Florida.  My friends in Florida have told me that central, north and west Florida are having wind gusts, some rain, but generally doing fine.  The eastern shore is being pummeled.   I have decided to drive west and south, starting to wind my way back home.
Today I left my cousin's home and was driving west and south, was in West Virginia again, and saw a sign for Harpers Ferry!   In the 1860, at the beginning of the Civil War, there was a skirmish there between James Brown and some  soldiers.  james Brown wanted all slaves freed.  The confrontation occurred at a railroad station.  One soldier died there.
The original RR Station is there, in wonderful condition.  I was lucky enough to be standing by the tracks when a train came through.  It was like reliving that moment of history.  The inside of the station currently services passengers who want to travel by train.
The buildings in Harpers Ferry are all original, well cared for and wonderful.  It's a small town, nestled in the corners of 3 mountain ranges. coming together, the confluence of the Shenandoah River and the Potomac, which over the years has wreaked horrible flooding damage, basically wiping out any industry there.
No matter where you look in the crevices one sees wonderful buildings, built  vertically, all along and up the rock and mountain.
Three trails come together there....   the Appalachian Trail, the Ohio Trail, and the RR Canal.  One of the pics in the collage are hikers that have just come off a long hike.   There is also an old Fire House, original building, after the Civil War.   It is a magnificent treasure, tucked away in the mountains.
Extra 1...   Lewis and Clark, the famous explorers of the west of US, had a presence in Harpers Ferry.  Extra 2 is the Potomac, bubbling along.
