Grizzly greeting?

First toddle down the garden since we got back. Did the washing and go it it hung out this a.m. I spotted what looked, at a middle distance 1st glance like an old Banana peel I'd accidentally dropped, en route to compost bin.
Some time ago (years) we had an affliction which found me fishing a group of corpses from the pond bottom; this is the first I've seen out in full view, thus.
NO idea why.
