Thou Shall Not Pass

Has anyone else noticed that sheep are a lot more belligerent than they used to be? I think it's a sign of the times. Perhaps they knew I was in danger of getting carried away with myself on another astonishingly beautiful day.

Living on a hill, right alongside the moor, it's very rare for there not to be any wind. This morning, as I climbed up to the old quarry, I realised that I was walking very slowly. Although I've been forced to walk with care this last month, I was in no discomfort on this occasion. There was no reason to be so slow - except for the lack of wind. Unconsciously, I think I was reacting to the utter stillness of the air, not wanting to disturb the grace of the world as it presented itself to me this morning. Rushing would have been entirely inappropriate.

The lack of even the faintest breeze meant that it was preternaturally quiet too. I've heard of voices carrying on the wind, but this morning offered a different phenomenon. I was able to follow the conversation of two people on the ridge a good quarter of a mile away. I could pick up every word, as if I was walking right alongside them. It was so uncanny that it was hard not to eavesdrop.

And thanks for all the love, as always. It's lovely to be reminded of all the good friends I have here.
