Nicky and her Nikon

Double trouble!

We woke up to rain and grey skies, and by breakfast time the rain was very heavy. I decided to make a slow cooked beef casserole with pearl onions, bacon and button mushrooms for lunch, and as it cooks for 3 hours in the oven I started making it early as we were going out for a walk. Today was the day we were meeting up for a dog walk with Xena's sister, and looking out the window at the heavy rain I thought we could not have chosen a worse day.

However, when we got to the woods at 11am it was clear weather and it was not raining at all - what luck! It was so strange seeing another little Vizsla who has the same face as Xena. Her sister Violet is heavier and a bit chunkier, while Xena is a bit taller, has longer legs and is skinnier. At first Violet growled at Xena and did not want to play - she has an older half brother and so when walking is used to following him around, and not really going off and meeting dogs on her own. Today her parents left big brother at home so the two little girls could play and also for Violet to get used to other dogs on her own. However they soon started playing and then did not stop - the whole walk they played constantly! It was impossible to get photos, as they were running around all the time and never stood still. This photo was taken in the one instance when they saw another dog approach and were standing looking at him.

When we got home Xena was tired from all that activity. We had lunch, which turned out to be delicious, and then as it was raining again I decided to be lazy and watch a movie. So Xena and I have spent the afternoon on the sofa with me watching Hotel Mumbai while she was sleeping - Gavin went to the driving range as he usually does. The movie is excellent, definitely worth watching.

And so another weekend comes to a close. Thomas' last week at home before he goes to university next Saturday, and he is working at the cafe for most of this week. He is also babysitting Xena for us as Gavin and I have theatre tickets to see Master Harold and the Boys tomorrow night.
