Eye Exam

Poor Fang!  He's been having swollen eyes on and off for the past few months.  At first the vet thought it was probably due to allergies.  He did better with meds but his left eye has been especially bad for a few weeks.  They followed up last week and he had a corneal ulcer caused by his eyelashes brushing his cornea.  Bulldogs have a propensity for entropion (inward folding of the eyelid).  That, made worse by swollen eyelids due to allergies, caused the ulcer.  Then yesterday after their walk, both eyes swelled and by this morning he wouldn't open either eye.  Becky took the day off and she and I took him back to the vet this morning.  He was not happy about getting his eyes checked again, as illustrated in my blip.  Becky was trying to hold him but he hid his face behind her head so she bent forward and the tech grabbed him from behind.  Once he was in this headlock, he stopped struggling and the vet was able to get a look. Now he has an ulcer on his right cornea too.  She has numbing ointment and tranquilizers for him until he sees the ophthalmologist vet Thursday morning.  He will need surgery to correct the entropion and the ulcers should heal on their own.  As for the allergies, we are expecting a hard freeze Thursday so we're hoping all the allergens will be frozen until next year!

I am grateful that Fang is such a good natured dog.  He's so big and powerful (already at 9 months old!) that he could really do some damage if he was mean!  Unfortunately, that doesn't make it any easier to get him to cooperate!

I just backblipped for yesterday if you want to take a look. :-)
