Marjorie's ramblings

Heavenfield

I've been at home today. I had a short walk this afternoon to St Oswald's Church at Heavenfield. This is a church whose doors are always open. Foot covers are provided in the porch; a great idea since the church is near to Hadrian's Wall Trail and many walkers visit it.

The history of the church is a dramatic one which you can read in many places on the web. Here is one of them. I find it rather disappointing that this building was erected in the late 19th century. It has very thick walls and is a simple structure, so one might be forgiven for thinking it is older than it is.

It was grey and a bit chilly on top, but I was glad of the fresh air and short walk.
