Treak Cliff Cavern

Thanks so much for all the stars and kind comments yesterday; can't believe it's really seven years since I joined blip!  I will reply soon, I promise....

Another fabulous sleep last night.  We're obviously really relaxed here, but I think the 'white noise' of the nearby weir helps, too.  Eventually got up and out, and drove to Castleton to visit the Treak Cliff Cavern, which was really cool.  We were taken round in a small group with just three other people, and shown various seams of 'bluejohn' (pretty purple fluorspar), stalactites and stalagmites.  The stalactites you see here have taken thousands of years to form; the one about a third of the way in from the right which looks like it's about to join up with the stalagmite beneath it won't actually do so for about another 1,200 years.  Mind-blowing.

The weather was starting to turn a bit rubbish by the time we came out, so we headed back to Bakewell for a cuppa and to sample the local Bakewell pudding.  Very tasty.  We popped back over to the Co-op to stock up on a few more essentials, too, then this evening we went for a tasty dinner at the local Indian restaurant.
