Copper and gold

An ancient Hazel coppice stool on the edge of Old Sulehay Forest, its golden leaves contrasting perfectly with the rich copper of the dying bracken. Autumn colour seems to have reached its crescendo and will soon start fading away to winter starkness.

Fungi continue to surprise and delight. Today I found a veritable forest of Slender Club Microtyphula juncea (see extra) covering several hundred square meters. I've been walking these woods for over twenty-five years and have never seen them her before. Remarkable!
