Portal into another world

The only phonebox you'll find in Whatton in the Vale and it's filled with second hand books to swap. The neighbouring silver birch is rather lovely in its Autumn finery.

An RPS East Midlands meeting today with Derek Forss as the speaker. Do you recall all those highly saturated photos of England in the summer? There's a commercial market for them on the covers of magazines and guidebooks. They're not the thing to put into camera club competitions.

Derek uses Olympus, eschews the use of tripods and lauds Olympus' implementation of optical image stabilisation into  the bodies of the camera as well as into the lenses. That enables him to use rather slow shutter speeds.

And it was a revelation to learn how the P mode on a camera can be used to good effect.
