Caught out!

We left home to drive across to Edinburgh this morning and as we passed Dalmally in the rain and the road began to rise, we began to encounter slush. A few miles further on and the road was covered in a couple of inches of snow and very slippery. We were all reduced to driving at 20mph apart from a white-van-man who overtook everyone! This lasted until Tyndrum when we met a gritter and snowplough coming the other way. We hadn't reckoned on that!

We drove out of it as we lost height and stopped at the David Stirling monument for a picnic lunch. For those of you who don't 'know' him, he was the founder of the SAS during WW2. His family lived at the nearby Keir House, having acquired the estate in 1448. It was sold to a businessman from UAE in 1975. The car park was empty when we arrived, but shortly afterwards another parked closely beside our Fiesta. Funny how one car seems to attract another!

We eventually entered Edinburgh in the sun, but with a very dark sky ahead. Not the journey we would have planned!
