The Doldrums

There should be a law passed that all umbrellas must be yellow. There is something cheering about a yellow umbrella on a wet morning when it’s not properly light and we are in the doldrums between Christmas and New Year.

It was difficult to remember today was a Friday and not a Sunday especially when miraculously there were fewer people in this neck of the woods. I hate to think what the Centre of town was like with all the sales traffic.

There is so much temptation on the ‘be good to yourself’ shelves in the Dower House at the moment, chocolates, Christmas Cake, mince pies, and marzipan delights not forgetting three bottles of Baileys. Oh yes, the children know my Achilles heel. I have eschewed them all so far in favour of a bowl of left over Christmas Day soup and some lentil crisps which look disarmingly low calorie.

I may have to brave the weather for a walk on the wild side and escape all temptation. And then it’s the eagerly awaited TGIF drinkies with the neighbours, as if,as remarked by one of them, we need any more alcohol.
