Now what are we gonna do?

The Oban Photographic Club has been in existence for nearly 60 years, but member numbers have dropped in the last few years, from the middle 30s in 2014 to just 14 this year. We're not sure why, but it's proving hard to recruit new people.

We've met in the Regent Hotel on Oban's Esplanade for many years and at one time organised a weekly slide show for hotel guests, highlighting many of the beautiful places in the area. For this we were allowed a free room for our club meetings.  As time went on these talks became less popular until it was decided that there was no purpose in continuing them, although our free use of the room continued.

A couple of years ago the hotel changed hands, but the new owners kindly allowed us to use the McCaig Room for our weekly meetings without charge. Then a couple of nights ago one of our members noticed that there were no lights on in the hotel, and we've discovered today that the hotel has suddenly closed. So we've lost our venue and have had to cancel next Monday's meeting. Now we're trying to get hold of the screen which is always kept there.

Big problem, as with our limited membership it's unlikely that we'll be able to pay for the use of a room. Worrying times!
