My Gods! It's Full Of Stars!

We drove up to Gloucester this afternoon, to experience the light installation in the Lady Chapel of Gloucester Cathedral. It was fab! The installation is by Squidsoup, and is on display to raise awareness of twenty years of the Gloucester Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (GARAS).

Each individual light on every string (and there are thousands) is individually addressable, and lights and dims and changes colour in a twenty minute sequence. It is accompanied by spoken words played overhead, moments of conversation with actual refugees.

Walking in between the strings, there is an immersive feel, akin to a meditative and perhaps slightly psychedelic dance. Ones orientation falters, and the room swims as the lit beads swing and hover around you. I loved this shot, where those walking into the volume become silhouettes.

If you got the title, you'll understand the trippy effect and impact of the work. Do check it out of you can. Loads more, probably later tonight, on Flickr. Don't do drugs, kids.
